I easily fill up all 5 of my silos, and by the time winter comes, I end up having a ton of uncut grass left because my silos are already full with plenty of hay to feed all my animals for the entire winter. You'll get more hay out of cutting grass than you need. It makes life so much easier than having to fill the feeders every day. When no 'un-petted' animals are on the farm nothing happens. When pressed a message with the info which player and how many animals where petted will be shown to all connected players.
#AUTOMATIC FEEDER STARDEW MOD#
You really want to get a few silos and cut the grass down to fill them up. This mod allows to pet all animals on your farm by simply pressing a configurable button (default 'P'). Your animal doors will open automatically at the time you specified in the config file no matter where your character is in the game world (you will hear the door opening sound). Once you build a silo, it automatically starts filling your silo whenever you cut some grass (a little hay icon will rise as you cut, but it won't go into your inventory, only into the silo, which when clicked on, will tell you xxx/240 hay). Unzip the mod folder into Stardew Valley/Mods. You won't start getting hay from cutting grass until you have a silo.

You get hay from the "soft" grass that you cut with your scythe, as opposed to the grass that sometimes gives you fiber. Ah I see, is a silo worth building? I don't get enough grass on my farm to get the fiber out of and I feel like I'll run out, especially during winter (since by winter I'll have 24 animals to take care of) Fiber and hay are two different things. The troth is filled every morning so you shouldn't have to do it yourself. I still have the basic barn and a coop but my animals always graze if its nice out Mine usually did but even before the auto feeder they wouldnt graze. You can also manually click on the hay dispenser in the coop / barn to pull out the missing amount of hay to manually add it in.
